BRECKENRIDGE SUMMER PACKING TIPS!
It's not too difficult to get a handle on Breckenridge summer weather as it tends toward warm days, cool nights, and afternoon thunderstorms. The average summer temperature during the day is 70 degrees and at night, it's 50 degrees. Keep in mind that those are just the averages, though. The weather during your stay could be full of surprises or pretty standard. Check the forecast before your trip to minimize the chance that you'll be caught off guard by the weather.
SELECTING YOUR SHIRTS: The most straightforward guideline for your vacation shirt selection is to have a good mix of short- and long-sleeves. You'll want shirts that you can easily layer when the temperature cools at night or during a rainstorm. If you plan on heading to higher altitudes during your stay, remember that the temperature drops the higher you go. Alternatively, if you plan on taking a day trip to lower altitudes, expect warmer temperatures than those in Breckenridge.
PICKING YOUR PANTS: What are you planning on doing during your Breckenridge vacation? For walking around town or hitting up the Fun Park or Putt and Play Junction, a good pair of shorts should suffice during the day. If you're going to go hiking, convertible hiking pants are a good choice. Mountain bikers should bring pants or shorts that will wick away moisture. Those of who you plan on going horseback riding should bring a comfortable pair of jeans. Depending on your cold tolerance, pants may or may not be necessary during the cooler Breckenridge nights. It's always good to pack at least one pair of pants should you find yourself faced with unseasonably cold temperatures during your stay.
OPTING FOR OUTERWEAR: Breckenridge summer afternoons usually involve a rain or thunderstorm, so be sure to pack a rain jacket. Other than that, the temperatures are usually mild enough that a hoodie, fleece jacket, or other light jacket will suffice during the cooler times. Whatever outerwear you choose, make sure that you can easily take it with you on hikes, bike rides, etc.
WHAT TO DO FOR SHOES? The answer to this question will rely mainly upon your planned activities. But, at the bare minimum, you should probably plan on bringing at least two pairs of shoes: sandals and a good pair of walking shoes. If your itinerary includes a wide variety of activities, you'll have to bring the right type of shoes for each activity (hiking boots, water shoes, cowboy boots, etc.). Focus on bringing shoes that will keep your feet supported and comfortable through all your adventures. Sore, achy feet can easily put a damper on your vacation.
CAMERA!!! Don't forget this!!! You’ll want to capture all of your Breckenridge memories to last forever.
SWIM SUIT: Bring your swim suit for some hot tubbing and/or rafting. Although we do not have hot tubs accessible for our guests at either of our rental units, the Breckenridge Recreation Center has a large indoor pool and indoor/outdoor hot tubs you may want to take advantage of!
AND DON'T FORGET... Breckenridge is very sunny in the summer! Bring a hat and sunglasses. Sunscreen is also extremely important. It's quite easy to get sunburned at higher elevations, even if it's cloudy outside. A small backpack or day pack can be a useful addition to help you carry water and snacks as you explore trails or the town. And before you zip up your bag, throw a bottle of bug spray in there, too. Mosquitoes and other bugs can be prevalent along hiking trails and near bodies of water.
Bonus tips for a night on the town– Breckenridge is a laid-back mountain community, which means you can save space and leave your fancy clothes (and your stilettos) at home. For the ladies, a nice scarf, a little lip gloss and jewelry go a long way.
Forget a crucial item at home? Take a stroll down Breckenridge Main Street and check out the many shops specializing in winter gear. We live for winter, so finding great gear is easy in town.
